I am a Master Brewer certified by the World Brewing Academy (Siebel/Doemens) and have been brewing since 2013. I also hold qualifications as a Brewing Technician, Beer Sommelier, and a Brewing Technology degree in Brazil. My background in Geophysics from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) and my postgraduate studies in Business Administration at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) have allowed me to combine science, technique, and management throughout my career. Today, I work as Americas Sensory Manager at FlavorActiV and am also the Head Brewer and Founder of Sampler Brewing Co. I live in Petrópolis, in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, and, like any true Brazilian, I’m passionate about football.

What's a common myth or misconception about sensory science you'd love to bust?

The myth that experts have better senses, when in reality they have more training, vocabulary, and sensory memory.

If you could eliminate one off-flavour from the world forever, what would it be?

For obvious reasons, butyric would be a good off-flavour to eliminate from Earth once and for all

What excites you the most about your role at FlavorActiV?

The opportunity to be part of the FlavorActiV team motivates me greatly because of all the challenges involved and the constant opportunity to learn new things and meet new people.

What's somethng people might be surprised to learn about you?

I have a degree in Geophysics, which has very little to do with the field I work in today, and it’s also a rather unconventional background. Everyone imagines a geophysicist as a somewhat crazy scientist.
