GMP Flavour Standards

Can you demonstrate compliance with Pharma GMP?
Yes, our production partner is fully certified by the UK Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and Registered Pharma GMP producer under the EU database.
How do I know that your GMP Flavour Standards are produced to a suitable level of quality?
All FlavorActiV GMP Flavour Standards are manufactured according to dedicated product specifications and undergo rigorous quality control checks, including sensory evaluation and analytical testing where applicable. Each production batch is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis confirming the testing performed. Certificates for specific batches are available upon request.
Are your GMP Flavour Standards certified?
All FlavorActiV GMP Flavour Standards are produced in accordance with dedicated product specifications and are subject to comprehensive quality control procedures, including sensory evaluation and, where required, analytical testing. Each production batch is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis confirming the testing performed. Certification is an ISO laboratory proficiency requirement that applies to analytical reference materials. FlavorActiV’s GMP Flavour Standards are designed for human sensory use and are not classified as laboratory reference materials requiring third-party certification.
How long will a prepared GMP Flavour Standard last once prepared?
FlavorActiV guarantees the performance of a prepared GMP Flavour Standard (i.e. once poured into a liquid) for up to 30 minutes. Certain flavours may dissipate rapidly, while others can remain detectable for several hours or even days depending on the compound and matrix chemistry.
What do I do if the capsule is stuck together and I can't open it?
Gently bend the capsule back and forth at the centre while holding each end. If it still won’t open, carefully cut off one end using clean scissors above the preparation vessel. Ensure scissors are cleaned between uses.
Why do you supply in blister packaging? Would pots not be stronger for international shipping?
Blister packaging offers a stable, safe, tamper-evident, and environmentally responsible solution. All products are securely packed to protect blister packs during shipping.
Why do GMP Flavour Standards have different shelf lives?
Each GMP Flavour Standard has a unique shelf life based on the stability of its active flavour ingredient. FlavorActiV guarantees performance throughout the full stated shelf life when stored correctly.
What are the best storage conditions for GMP Flavour Standards?
Store below 25°C and below 50% humidity. Hydrogen Sulphide should be stored below 10°C. Keep away from moisture, sunlight, heat, and strong odours.
Are GMP Flavour Standards safe to consume, and why are they labelled “Do not eat”?
They are training tools designed to be diluted in liquid. The final tasting sample is safe to smell and taste. Capsules must not be swallowed.
Are your GMP Flavour Standards Allergen Free?
All are allergen-free except Sulphitic (contains Sulphur Dioxide). All are produced in a GMP pharmaceutical environment with no risk of cross-contamination.
Your GMP Flavour Standards indicate they contain sucrose — are they safe for diabetics?
A capsule may contain up to 0.5g sucrose. When diluted in 1 litre, a 25ml tasting sample contains ~0.0125g sugar — an extremely small amount.
Can FlavorActiV provide flavour additives for product development?
No. FlavorActiV provides sensory training tools, not flavour ingredients. For profiling support, please see our Flavor Forensics service.
How many people can be trained using one GMP Flavour Standard capsule?
When prepared in 1 litre, one capsule typically trains around 12–15 people depending on sample size.
How can I place an order for GMP Flavour Standards?

This approach helps ensure accurate and timely delivery of your GMP Flavour Standards worldwide.
How long does delivery take once my order has been placed?
Our GMP Flavour Standards typically arrive within 5–12 working days, depending on the destination country, flight schedules, and customs clearance processes. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking details to help you monitor your shipment’s progress.
What should I do if my package is delayed or held at customs?
If your package is held at customs, your local courier will contact you directly to assist with any required paperwork and the payment of applicable taxes or import duties. Once these have been settled, your order will be released and delivery can proceed.

Can I change my delivery address after placing an order?
If you need to change your delivery address after placing an order, please contact our customer service team as soon as possible. Address changes can only be made before your order has been dispatched. Once the order has been shipped, any delivery address updates must be coordinated directly with the courier, as FlavorActiV is unable to modify delivery details after dispatch.
What if my package arrives damaged?
If your package arrives damaged, please take clear photographs of the packaging and contents as soon as possible and contact our customer service team. We will review the issue and work with you to arrange a suitable resolution or replacement where appropriate. All shipments are securely packed and quality checked before dispatch, but damage can occasionally occur during transit. Prompt notification helps us address the situation quickly with our courier partners.
Is there a cost for global shipping?
You will be contacted by the courier to arrange payment of any customs duties or local taxes required for your order. These fees must be settled promptly to avoid storage charges, delays, or the goods being returned or disposed of by customs.

Materials and Extra Training Aids

I’ve ordered GMP Flavour Standards but need help with the sensory descriptors — can you assist?
Our team will be happy to assist. Please send us a message via our Contact Us page, and we will provide guidance along with any additional sensory descriptor materials to support your training.
Where can I find sensory descriptors for each flavour?
Sensory descriptors for each GMP Flavour Standard can be found in our Flavour Library and accompanying training materials. These resources provide clear reference notes and sensory guidance to help panellists recognise and describe each flavour accurately. If you need additional support or specific descriptor materials, please contact our team via the Contact Us page, and we’ll be happy to assist.
Do you provide translations of descriptors or materials in other languages?
Yes — many of our descriptor materials and training resources are available in multiple languages to support our global customers. If you require translated materials, please contact our team via the Contact Us page and let us know your preferred language. We will confirm availability or arrange translation where possible.

Proficieny / Taster Calibration

Can I customise our proficiency program?
Yes, FlavorActiV offers tailored proficiency programmes designed to meet the specific needs of larger organisations or groups. Customisation can include flavour selection, product type focus, and regional requirements to ensure the programme aligns fully with your training and quality objectives.
Where and how should we log our proficiency results?
Proficiency results should be logged through the FlavorActiV Proficiency platform. Each participant or panel coordinator can enter results directly following the instructions provided with your proficiency materials. Once submitted, results are automatically reviewed and included in your proficiency reports. If you need help accessing the portal or entering data, please contact our team via the Contact Us page.
How often are proficiency rounds conducted?
The frequency of proficiency rounds can vary depending on the specific scheme in place. However, we generally recommend conducting rounds every 2–3 months to ensure regular assessment and ongoing development of sensory performance. Custom schedules can also be arranged to align with your organisation’s training needs and operational requirements.
What information is included in a typical proficiency report?
A typical proficiency report provides a detailed analysis of sensory performance, including both individual and group results. Key metrics include:

- Panellist accuracy compared with the flavour reference
- Group consistency across the panel
- Identification and recognition rates for each flavour
- Benchmarking against global participants in the same scheme

Reports are designed to highlight strengths, identify areas for improvement, and support continuous development of sensory capability within your team.

Training and Certification

Do you offer remote or in-person sensory training sessions?
We offer both virtual and in-person sensory training options for your team. Training materials are provided in advance, including full preparation instructions, and our Sensory Specialists will guide you through each stage of the process to ensure a successful and engaging training experience.
Do you provide certificates for training completion?
FlavorActiV provides certificates of completion for participants who take part in our structured sensory training programmes. These certificates recognise individual achievement and demonstrate sensory competence.
How long does a typical sensory training session last?
Our sensory training programmes can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your panel. For a comprehensive learning experience, we offer multi-day training sessions — typically up to four days in duration. If you’re looking for a shorter, refresher-style session, a one-day training is an effective option to reinforce existing skills and recalibrate your panel’s sensory performance.
Can I get recommendations on which flavours to use for a specific training topic (e.g., oxidation, freshness, off-notes)?
Yes — our sensory specialists can recommend the most suitable GMP Flavour Standards for your specific training objectives, such as oxidation, freshness, or off-note recognition. We can also suggest tailored flavour sets based on your product type or category (e.g., beer, wine, dairy, coffee, or soft drinks). To receive personalised recommendations, please contact our team via the Contact Us page.
