Passionate about sensory throughout my professional life, I joined FlavorActiV in 2011, although the relationship started 10 years earlier as a part-time job, to help develop the market in Brazil. I have a team of sensory specialists who together with me are responsible for the entire continent of America. My educational background includes a graduation in chemical engineering, master science degree in biochemistry and doctorate in food science, besides being brewmaster and beer sommelier. Beer is one of my passions too, so I still find time to brew some beers and participate as professional judge in beer competitions.
Rob McCaig Director, Food and Beverage Markets, North America
Since completing a Master of Science degree in Applied Microbiology from the University of Guelph, I have gained over 35 years of hands on experience in international malting and brewing operations, including product and process development. I have always been passionate about beer sensory and had an interest in beer education.
Whilst working in operations at SABMiller, Asahi, Molson and CMBTC, I successfully integrated FlavorActiV solutions leading to improved flavour ratings and better control of beer freshness.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc.) in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba, I worked as a Lab Technician at CMBTC. I was responsible for operating the pilot and micro-malting systems, barley quality evaluation and running the laboratory equipment.
In my free time I love playing ice hockey, golf as well as traveling.
