Bromophenol Flavour Standard

Bromophenol Flavour Standard

The Bromophenol Flavour Standard trains professional tasters to recognise and measure the intensity of bromophenol’s character in beverages. Bromophenol taints can arise from external contamination of packaging materials and the environment. The flavour threshold of bromophenol in beverages ranges from 70 to 230 ng/L.

Our Bromophenol flavour standard is one of many different brominated phenols that can occur. This is intended as a general representation of the flavour of these taints. In addition, we have other brominated phenols as part of our flavour standard range available on request.

Cause of Flavour
Bromophenol is a taint that can occur in all beverages.

Caused by raw material and finished product coming into contact with brominated surfaces – such as paint, recycled cardboard, paper wood and fire proofing materials.

Plastic packaging can also absorb brominated phenols when stored in unsuitable places and then impart these to product stored within them.
